"This 4th of July"
This 4th of July, a terrorist entered a Los Angeles International Airport terminal and began random shooting at innocent American civilians standing in line at the EL-Al airline check-in counter. Hesham Mohamed Hadayet tragically killed two people and wounded four, however, his shooting spree ended in split seconds when he was jumped on by two bold El-Al security agents who shot him causing his immediate death.
El-Al security is known for its unmatched expertise and effectiveness in fighting terrorism. This expertise is a product of a target-oriented approach against terrorism that is based on learning the mindset of the terrorist and studying his or her methods in order to detect and determine his or her potential threat. El-Al security agents are trained to detect suspicious acts and empowered to make decisions, quickly and effectively. Although the incident took place in a public environment in an area with no access control, these agents were trained to anticipate and react and in doing so minimized injury and death and put an end to the event almost as soon as it began.
The possibility that terrorism may strike anywhere and at anytime makes terrorist attacks ever more effective in creating fear, confusion and dismay. Many of us today feel vulnerable because the targets seem unknown and the enemy, hidden. The terrorist, his motives and his methods of operation are unclear and ill-defined to the average person.
The media informs us about the potential outcomes, dangers and the implications of terrorism. Security experts warn the public to be vigilant and aware, recommending increased police activity and tightening up of security measures. However, this stream of information lacks empowering and simple tools and methods for more effectively coping with terrorism and terrorists.
The war against terror is a civilian war where, like it or not, individuals and communities are the foot soldiers. We would do well to equip ourselves with the offensive tools of detection, determination and deployment. Our eyes and senses are our biggest weapon against the illusive enemy and we should therefore apply our senses to detect the suspicious and determine if it does indeed pose a threat, acting accordingly to deploy a response. Terrorists should know they are being watched and targeted. Only then will we be able to say that we have won over the terrorists and put them on the run.
To help people arm themselves with detection tools and determination capabilities, the Chameleon Group offers its services in customizing educational and training solutions to communities and businesses. Every person and every employee is an asset to the security and safety of his or her environment. With training, they can be empowered with strategies to use their senses against any potential aggressive act with positive outcomes.
